Hangin' On Hope

I’ve had seven years of poor luck

Run down men and broke down trucks

Birds that fly and never return

Heatless fires and water that burns

Oh, I’ve moved here, I’ve moved there

Gave my all without a care

Other folks seem to make a way

Better than me on my very best day

Mama told me in her so-long letter

She was cursed, and that I should do better

She was hexed in life and so am I

But I’m too damn stubborn to change or cry

I wonder when it’ll turn around

I just caint seem to find the ground

I use water on chemical fires

Rollin’ my truck on all bald tires

Its possible I could make this scene

But chances are I’ll be in between

Where I was and I should be

When it all gives way and I’m stuck with me

Some of us just caint stay true

North is somewhere ‘tween me and you

The money’s all gone and no more rope

But I’m a sturdy woman hangin’ on hope

Arrested for fightin’ my landlord lady

Her dog went wild and I protected my baby

Judge said “sorry lady, dogs aren’t kids”

Now she’s a one eared bitch and I’m on the skids

Daddy tried like hell to reel me in

“Stay away from drugs and pretty men”

He was a kind man and a good mechanic

But a hopeless drunk and a crazy manic

It's possible I could make this scene

But chances are I’ll be in between

Where I was and I should be

When it all gives way and I’m stuck with me

Some of us just caint stay true

North is somewhere ‘tween me and you

The moneys all gone and no more rope

But I’m a sturdy woman hangin’ on hope

Surprisingly I was good in school

But I had trouble with all the rules

I’ve been a junior in college for the past 10 years

Never promoted, still slingin’ beers

I know now I didn’t have the start

Others had, but I’m just as smart

There’s just some things that I don’t know

I run real fast but still go slow.

Its possible I could make this scene

But chances are I’ll be in between

Where I was and I should be

When it all gives way and I’m stuck with me

Some of us just caint stay true

North is somewhere ‘tween me and you

The moneys all gone and no more rope

But I’m a sturdy woman still hangin’ on hope

Excellent lyrical poem Dawn. I would love to hear this is a song. I can relate to the struggle and the determination of a strong soul. Write on! ?
