Stray Thoughts

What was I thinking

a while ago?

I know it was something important

because I was thinking

it was something I should write down

but now I just don't remember what it was

and so it preys upon my mind

and distorts my thinking

in fact, right now

that lost thought is all I'm thinking about

I think it was a good idea

and I was going to do something with it

but then carelessly put it off

so the thought got loose and wandered off

and now I am trying to find it

with very few clues as to where it went

it had no tags

no microchip

so the thought is untraceable

a Stray thought if you will

which means that the good thought

will spend the night out all alone

and probably end up going hungry

under some freeway bridge

I wish someone would come along

and find my thought and adopt it

give it a good home

because thoughts are like puppies

they are uncoordinated and unpredictable

and like to run off every chance they get

so to protect your thoughts

keep them close

do not let them out of your sight

and whatever you do

do not think they will come back on their own

once escaped

they could end up in someone else's head

and then that someone

would have the right to name it-

stray thoughts have no papers.

d. Oh! d.

It's such a shame
you did not give that thought a name
For if you had and called it out
it would return without a doubt.

I trust your well
and in good health
If poems had value
you'd have untold wealth.

Intriguing - with a certain truth along the way.
I think, therefore I am (Descartes)
But sometimes I wonder if I am what I think - or something|!
