who have entered the poetry contest

All funds raised will be given to needy poets

to buy a cup of soup and a bagel

Your generosity means

there will be even more struggling poets

many of whom intermarry

Though the contest itself is done

our begging continues

so please donate

even if you don't like poets or poetry

What we need is more money

which goes toward something

not clearly defined

there are rules

but as poets we don't follow them

So please give-

give until it hurts

give until you have nothing left

then you too

can become another struggling poet

living off handouts

and a few claps from the audience.
