Donations are essential to keep Write Out Loud going

2016

The year is almost over,

Our birds have got the flu,

Our pounds are losing value,

And the trains are overdue,

We held a referendum,

We all had loads to say,

The outcome unexpected,

As it gave us Mrs May,

The NHS is creaking,

Farage is friends with Trump

The English voted Brexit

So the Scots have got the hump

The Doctors started striking

The postal workers too,

And Michael turned on Boris,

That caused a great to-do!

But in between the nonsense,

Many worked hard to behave ,

As Her Majesty reached ninety

And Prince George gave his first wave,

We gathered gold in Rio,

We enjoyed the Autumn sun,

Our nation felt triumphant

With our tennis number one

The Scotsman train was mended,

Travelled back to rest in York,

And despite our disagreements,

We were all allowed to talk,

To speak our views with passion,

Argue, mostly, with good cheer,

I say thank you for our freedom,

In another British year!
