This Place of Light

Stepping into the density,

But then, breath returns,

Always Love

Letting go of physicality is difficult,

Letting go of physicality is beautiful.

The physical is wondrous--

a bird in flight,

caw-caw,

a song at night,

melody settling into the eve.

The physical is laborious--

things break, things decay, ceaseless entropy.

But some things last,

we stumble upon them in archeological digs in our homes--

a card of love written long ago...

Words Like Rain

Words dance like

Sometimes the words

What then are words?

Do birds have their own words

in their wild cheerful chirps?

The words in the mind of the poet

have no precise definition;

they are as varied as the stories of the human experience.

I believe in wisdom

I believe in strength

I believe in boundless joy

I ask, I believe

I jump into expectation

Let it be so

And it is so

Walking

When I feel mother earth beneath my feet,

I am soothed.

It matters not where I am

north, south, east or west,

it matters not what I see,

birth or decay,

I am soothed

by the rhythms

of the turning globe

beneath my feet.

Looking down,

dirt and weeds,

flowers and trees.

Looking up,

sky and clouds,

rain and thunder.

Destruction and reconstruction,

cyc...

Sitting Around a Table with a Black Cat and Red Roosters

One is in her 80's,

the other is in her 90's,

two old sisters who live together

in a little ranch house

where horses graze

and the wind blows the gentle green.

The son of the older sister lives there too,

keeping an eye on mom and aunt,

happy that mom and aunt let his boyfriend join the household

and treat him like family.

Mom walks with a cane,

aunt uses a walker...

Love's Melody

When I fill my heart with love

my worries fly out the window,

oh, a heart that dances with love

has no end of joy.

When my heart feels the rhythm of my soul

it cannot help but soar,

the universe opens its mysteries

and laughter sings with the stars.

Oh, this earthly plane is filled with sorrows,

but when the heart and soul join in wondrous melody,

harmony descends in ...

Sunlight Filters Through

Be an empty vessel,

pour out all your thoughts,

be a glass clear shining,

let sunlight filter through.

Emptiness clears the way for happiness,

nothing to cling to,

when air moves freely,

there is room for peace.

Be an empty vessel,

and fill the space with love.

Everything, Together

Everything is divine,

can you see the threads of love

connecting everything together?

Oh, you thought you were lost,

moored on an island of hopelessness.

But no, I tell you, there is a life boat waiting for you at the shore,

there is a chorus of birds singing you to safety and well-being.

Fear not!

You are as precious as each leaf growing bravely on a winter's branch,

th...

Looking for the Rainbow

Let the rain fall

and soothe your tears,

let the wind blow

and calm your fears.

These sorrows that weigh on your heart

become as feathers light in the breeze,

these worries that tire your mind

become as nothingness

when met with love.

Love lifts away all these tribulations,

love is the overarching comforter.

Under the rainbow of love,

all is refreshed,

lookin...

Be

Be stirred

like a teaspoon in a cuppa

Be rejuvenated

like grass sparkling after a rain

Be playful

like puppies tumbling into each other

Be happy

like a deep breath

in early morning air

All this

is yours

this day

this smile

this touch

Be full

this day

in this banquet of possibilities

Breathe

We want life without death

but it doesn't work that way

here on this turning planet,

here in this place

death is always just a breath

away

and when it comes

those left behind

grieve,

those left behind

breathe

their sorrow into songs

and flowers.

Is death a friend?

Is dying going home?

Breathe now, my dear,

breathe into this moment.

Death lives wit...

Poetry! (with an invitation)

Poetry is like being on a boat

Fingers trailing in the water

Birds flashing in the sky

Sun hazy through the clouds

The smell of salt and dirt and weedy growing things,

Flowing water.

Poetry is like running out in a rainstorm

Rounds of water and hail

Stinging pellets on the skin

Thunder clap and a flash of lightning,

Setting the soul free.

Poetry is a force that mov...

Sitting in the Kitchen

A moment of joy preparing an apple

Bite size

Cut in half, cut in quarters, cut in eighths,

a sliver in a dip to remove the seeds,

the smell fresh and clean,

a little bite,

flavor crisp,

a moment of thanks,

simple nourishment,

the earth's bounty at my fingertips.

Remember

We put ourselves in little boxes

We forget the matrix

We forget the oneness

We draw straight lines

Linear descendance

We forget the circles

We forget ascendance

Until one day

Things fall apart

Drastically apart

Profoundly apart

And we remember

We remember

And we fall into Love

Blue Sky

I was weighed down by earth's dense travails

until I discovered the freedom of the air and the sky.

Oh, those vast expanses!

Why had I locked my eyes on the downtrodden ground?

forgetting to look up and up and up,

arms outstretched,

how majestic are those clouds and skies!

Looking up, breathing deep,

the sky paints the world a soft blue,

and me--

I fly into that blue ...

Let the River Flow

Letting go is the only way I will survive this,

when I grasp

I lose my grip,

when I desire

I get lost in my needs.

Oh, but letting go

creates openings,

when I let go I step into a field of expansion,

a field of flowers,

scent fills my senses,

a field of light,

hope rises each morning.

Letting go is letting in

all good things,

released--

a stream of peac...

Song to the Night Sky

All the suffering peoples of the world

Joined hands on the wings of love

Soaring to the rooftops

Traversing across the planet

Dancing into the skies

Their spirits freed from earthly travails

Oh, the brilliance they encountered!

Oh, the joys they experienced!

The melodies of their hearts rang out

The bells of freedom chimed

The drums of welcome echoed

Far and wide

When Thought Meets Page

Our words are like ribbons blowing in the wind.

Quietly, they appear on the page,

written and then disappearing from mind's thought.

Oh, but that magic moment when the reader

reads and says Oh!

Noticed, the words are happy,

grateful to be understood

grateful to be alive.

Tell Me a Story

All these bodies of pain

walking around the planet,

seeking, begging for relief.

Does all creation inherently move towards its own destruction?

Do even the skies now carry our crazy weapons of annihilation?

Unanswered questions twirl,

but only I control my internal narrative.

I can tell a different story--

beings of love,

wrapped in bodies of confusion.

Let go of the ...

I Want to Be that Old Woman

I want to be sturdy

like that tree

with the fat trunk,

I want my legs to be like that.

I want to be steady

like those leaves

that blow in the wind

but stay rooted to the branch,

I want my arms to be like that.

I want to be free

in my heart,

unburdened,

like those clouds that drift by

so puffy white,

I want my breath to be like that.

I want to smile

Each Page

Turn the page of each day

as if you are savoring a wonderful book.

Don't try to rush to the end

or skip paragraphs--

you will miss so much!

Hold the precious book of your life

in your hands with reverence,

turn the pages slowly and with patience,

let the story unfold

as it unfolds.

You are both the author and the reader,

read with joy!

Let the story write itself...

Tending the Garden with Peace

Inner peace is like

tending a garden.

Left unattended,

weeds dance with the crops,

lovingly tended every day,

the edible plants enjoy the full terrain.

Tend to peace every day,

with the breath,

releasing what is ready to go,

inviting in the light.

Inner peace is a flower

that grows tall and brilliant,

providing strength, solace, and serenity.

Daily, lovingly...

Lovely

Oh the lovely messes of things,

oh the lovely chaos of things,

we arrange things in neat rows

until the wind arrives

and jumbles them up,

then we walk gingerly through the mess and chaos,

an obstacle course of uncertainty under our feet,

but still we smile as we sigh

at the lovely messes of things,

the lovely chaos of things,

life.
