Hi Cynthia re; After the Rain - I pass that group of trees most days and will try to ID the species if I ever remember in time. I'm wondering if they were horse chestnuts perhaps. Many thanks for commenting Cynthia much appreciated.

I do tend to slide out quietly if I don't really know anyone to talk to rather than feel like the spare bridesmaid! I shall make more effort another time! Nice though to put some more faces to names.

It seems my emails aren't reaching you either.

We've not been at Sandbar since April, I'd mentioned that when I last emailed you, we're at An Outlet now, and looking to move to the Seven Oaks in the near future.

The May and June shows have been and passed. With me not hearing from you I wasn't sure you'd got the details RE the change of dates/venues and had to get a replacement.

If you'd be interested in reading poetry as part of our OpenMind festival at our OpenMind:OpenVoice poetry evening it's going to be at An Outlet on Dale Street, Manchester on 12th August from 6pm - 10pm with many top poets from across the country taking part. Let me know if you can make it and I'll put you on the guest list.

Thanks for your comment Cynthia and for picking up that spelling mistake. I do know the difference but sometimes I just don't proof read well enough. I'd always much rather people pointed stuff like that out cos they serve as distraction otherwise. That is one of my favourite poems - I just love the rebelliousness in it. Girl power! x

Cynthia, thank you for taking the time for such a full critique which was great - many thanks. It is always a privilege for me when someone takes the time to really look at a poem of mine. I don't disagree either! It was a bit of a throw away piece for me and was more about the performance than the poem but I shall take time to look again. Hope you and yours are all well. XXX

Hi Cynthia - Thanks for your kind comments on 'Nowt nor Summat?'
I've been reading 'The Strangest Man', the biography of Paul Dirac, a British theoretical particle physicist, which led me on to read a bit deeper, and from what I can gather, all we see seems to be the result of the manifestation of mathematical entities rather than real stuff ... maybe (my head hurts!)

Hi Cynthia

You've a brilliant eye for detail I applaud you. I should explain that the poems I post on here are the first drafts and sometimes when I'm distilling the poems I repeat an image. I've changed the latex line in Pearls as I wanted the bones to the poem so later I could flesh it out. Editing is a huge russian doll of which I'm constantly unlayering.

Your comments are always brilliant.

Thank you for your considered comment on Escape, Cynthia, your thoughts are always appreciated. I thought about it, but won't be changing it, because I do prefer it the way I wrote it. I realise it isn't the most 'poetic' write in the world, but there is some poetry in it I believe. And it was a bit like stripping my skin off so another reason is that I don't really want to revisit it - left me in a pretty fucked up way the evening after I put it up.

Now I want to write something joyful about Peggy Seeger, because I think I fell in love with her watching her play the other night :)

Hi Cynthia I've had another look at La Nue Provencale and think that, hopefully, I've made it reflect better what you actually see in the image. The time sequence in the first stanza is now maybe a bit more straight forward. See what you reckon.

Hi Cynthia Thanks for the very considered response to my provencal lady. I'm thinking about your comments. I have slightly shifted my time frame to before the point we see in the photo which may have complicated it all a bit. By the way if you write a poem about a painting it's call 'ekphrastic' ( if that's how you spell it!). I suppose you can use it for photos as well. I thought the time sequence made sense. She wakes up early before the sun is up but then eventually gets up herself a bit later. I think, though, that I may have to tinker with the bit about the shutter. She probably opens it when the sun is much stronger than I suggest so 'seep' and 'premonition' might need changing. Maybe 'sweep' and 'summons' - but it's got to have the right sound/cadence. Btw my new collection 'In the Distance' is now available on Amazon if you fancy a signed copy!

Hi Cynthia,

Thanks re bitter-sweet affair. I think the 'sweet' part is only really there if you know the subject matter.
I suppose 'blurred' is almost apt re 'green' though it would be in a very lateral sense and again only really understood by me. ( not sure if this is good or bad ha ha )
Either way, i appreciate your input x

Thanks very much for your comment the poem is not too finely balanced but does in part refer to the story of the Talents (coins) given by a father to his 3 sons with differing results in the Bible.

For explanation my poem adds a fourth son who is extremely gifted but becomes so absorbed in his own genius that his "talents" are destroyed taken away - I suppose Icarus and Narcissus are similar in mythology and certainly a lot of the rock stars who died early because of their excesses would fall into the same category.

Explanation is not my strong suit so I hope you now get the jist - Thanks again David
