Hi Ann 'Half-Light', crepuscular eh - a new word for me - Half-Light always has a special meaning to ex-service folk who traditionally rouse from rest in expectation of an enemy attack x

Thanks for your interest in Touch Wood, Cynthia. The title was a writing group homework. I came across the story of the whipping yew while away for a couple of days on the Welsh borders. We found the actual tree, and could see how it had been used. The thought of people being left there all night was horrible. As I wrote the poem it dawned on me that the fellow was innocent of the crime for which he was being punished, but maybe guilty of other, unconfessed misdeeds that had been preying on his mind for a long time. Whether the burden was lifted - or whether he was still alive, or sane at the end of it - I don't know!

Hello Anthony!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment on
'Berry Bridge'... It is a very special poem that was written for and influenced by someone very dear to me...
(I had deleted all of my other poems from 2010 in a fit of anger and sadness).

The Berry Bridge is a real place... but can also be any other place you so desire ; )

Hmmm... My secrets...?
I am extremely optimistic.
I am confident.
I am driven. : )

hi laura, thanks for your feedback on the list.
I've removed the poem as I don't like to catalogue all my work..just give it an airing and get some feedback. its not often i have a piece that i think is finished.
i am bitter and my poems are all streaked with ascerbicity (good word!) Anyway i have a place i go to to write good poems, from the heart so to speak, but its so heavy i fear its morbid outpourings. hence writing more cerebral stuff that allows a dispassionate view. its just this writing lacks depth and seems to be mainly of interest only to myself.
anyway i might rework the other poem but will be more likely to just write something else. maybe this time from the spleen and really get the bile flowing.
i respect your opinion so thanks again x

David, I'm not sure what I was on when I commented on Chalk this morning. Too fresh from reading the paper, I suppose. Like you,I love the idea of the Med emptying and refilling. I've always wanted to see the world with the plug pulled out and the oceans emptied for a few hours. Just to see what it looked like.

Hi Greg I've been wrting this over the last few days but started thinking about it before the disaster struck Japan. Someone passed on to me a link about this bloke's work. Until I saw it I thought 'pavement artists' just knocked out pictures of the Mona Lisa, but now some of them do these big industrial 3-D jobs. I thought this bloke's stuff was amazing at first, but then thought at the end of the day they're not really any more amazing than what 'really' happens. I did think this poem might be a bit obscure (which I was I mentioned the artist), but just wanted to see what feedback I might get. I can't keep writing the same old stuff about my family history! The obscurest image (and my favourite) is the bit in the middle about the Mediterranean. It's been on a constantly changing cycle between sea and desert for millions and millions of years. Slowly evaporates and then gradually refills when the waters flow back in from the Atlantic. Mindblowing stuff. That's why they have all these incredible salt mines on some of the isalnds and the bones of tiny elephants that got stranded as the desert gradually got inundated. Blimey, this is a long post!!

Thank you for your comment re my compering Cynthia - I was very touched. If I could be anything in life, I would be a comedienne - you need an awful lot of confidence and talent to do that though. It has taken me many years to reach the stage where I can compere. Who knows? Perhaps one day, when I'm in a wheelchair, I'll be knocking Peter Kaye off the stage! xx

PS, Its not about blaming them, most often is the case that many were indoctrinated with the same bulshit when they were younger. It's about stopping it continuing in our children. Wouldn't it be nice if for once, a politician would stand up and instead of giving us verbal about what he or she is going to do, they would actually ask; What do you want me to do to make this world work for you? There would be perhaps a whole race of peoples saying, Stop feeding us the bulshit that perpetuates a system that doesn't work. And give back belief in oneself to our children. We might then stand a chance to get along with one another. And mold a society that cares.

Hi Melanie! I have just read all the work you have placed in here. I have to say that in many ways I know the places you have been, where you have come from and where you are now. I don't talk of those places much. But I hear everything you say and yes, it has brought back somethings I try not to think of. I grew up very fast around the age of 6/7. Damned tough watching your fellow siblings getting the belt, especially when one was only two years of age when paraded in the bedroom and having her knickers pulled down. I feel what your feeling even now at the age of 43. Its sad to feel the fire on your person because mental ill health re visits over and over again the abuse and torment one went through when we were children. Big boys don't cry they used to say. So I joined the army, and got myself a whole new set of abuses to worry about in the world. Still, at least when I ventured Africa and the Middle East, I had a weapon to give me a chance to defend myself with. But what do children have to defend themselves with? In the main, nothing. You know what's even more heartbreaking, I thought I was the only one who had endured what I had endured when I was younger, but the military is full of people with the same experiences. I feel for you, I hope you can find within yourself, somewhere that is a sanctuary with all the beauty and peace that you are.

Mike

Hi - thing is, he wrote 12 or 13 - the first is a bit technical cos he was gathering botanical data about the plants & its full of references cos that was his Phd thesis. The last 2 are a bit shite cos he's talking about stuff that don juan never taught him (really) - the second book "A separate reality" & onwards are the best IMHO & the first (teachings of don juan) is good also, once you know what you're getting. just my 2 cents :)

Your 'bird dream' sounds fantastic. I have never experienced any kind of transmutation or transmogrification, never had the conscious desire to (or unconscious, either, I guess); so, maybe, therein lies the difference. I've had lots of incidences with birds, animals and insects as though we 'talked' the same language, 'eye contact', all when wide awake.
