Nicky, I was thinking of you today, and wondering how your pregnancy was progressing. Perhaps you have already given birth. Happy Easter to you, in whatever sense you most identify - even if it's purely the rebirth of springtime and blackbirds.

Greg, I loved your comment left for me on my personal site re: the villanelle, about 'bolting one's self into a formal structure'. You understood exactly what I meant about the writing of it being 'an adventure'. I used to write in forms of lines, metres and rhymes a lot. I go back periodically to keep my hand in. My real challenge is - a sonnet (don't care which type).

Hello Anthony. I hope you have managed to come through your not funny ha ha time ok.
You need to reinforce that skin of yours and get yourself back on here. A worthy WOLOP past winner and critic, you add something to the site - plus you often make me laugh.
Perhaps you could write an ode to laughter - that gift from the Gods that seems to go unopened for so many...

Thanks for comments on Spelling. . . I guess the spelling issue was supposed to imply a more general lack of communication between two people, not on the same wavelength type of thing, maybe if you were trying to distance yourself from someone you're attracted to. But I'm not very good at spelling anyway! And I agree you wouldn't fall for someone cos they were a good speller! But that's the point of the poem maybe? And it's based on someone I know. xx

Hi Isobel,
Missed you too. Been a funny time for me of late - not funny ha-ha. My comment wasn't meant to be cryptic. What I meant was that it was about time you allowed others a chance to reward your talent and be suitably WOLOPed. Like your latest too - although I'm not going to say why publicly for fear it gets me into trouble - as usual. Beautiful minds are rare, whether male or female. Beautiful words it seems these days, rarer still.
Regards,
A.E. x

Thank you for your comments on "Bye Mommy". I was very focused on the structure because what I wish I could do is be a songwriter and I wrote this as lyrics - but I barely have any original music in my head, so the way I wrote it was to a vague tune I could hear. I think if it ever were a song, it would be more concise if a young man and an older woman sang the different verses, which of course would probably mean a major rewrite. But I don't have any musicians knocking down my door, so I'm probably safe on that one!

Thanks again,
Lisa

Hi Andy, by the Power of the Sonic Screwdriver the nits can be vanquished. But -- if they're not treated -- it doesn't 'alf make the Dalek's itchy and they don't have sufficient reach with their suction cup and whisk, so they end up rubbing their tubs against tree trunks, just like bears do. Doesn't do the trees much good, either. Love your poems -- especially 'Animals in the bags'!

Hi John Thanks for looking in. I know West Haddlesey. As a lad I lived for my first 10 years in Selby just off doncaster road! My mum still lives there and by brother in Barlow. In fact I know the G & D too. I will be cycling past it on next mon or tue twice as part of a 200km ride from My home in Hebden Bridge to North Cave and back "walking in six string heaven" - I am a big fan of rock guitar I'm afraid. I will think of Coopey's groupies when I pass. Win x

Thanks for your kind comments about "Coopey's Groupies". This a very rare example of me being able to do something positive with such an unusual surname.
The poem is true (-well, perhaps a little exaggerartion with the anecdotes-). It's the George and Dragon in West Haddlesey near Selby.
Anyway, I took the opportunity to look at some of your poems and was impressed by them - we seem to share a love of rhythm. I especially enjoyed the phrase "walking in six string heaven" - very pictorial and evocative.
Once again, thanks for the post.

Thank you for your comment on Baby Irma. Rest assured, no trafficking of babies (oh, Cynthia, that would be a horrendously gothic idea, the trafficking of dead babies to the Living and living babies to the Dead) it's simply the Dead wishing to take advantage of their position and set up a trading cartel. What goods would the Dead trade with the Living and vice versa? I leave that to your imagination.

Hi Jane, glad you enjoyed my Kingfisher poem. I've been looking at your work and was struck by the abundance of rich language in Apple Power, and by the quiet but outraged patriotism of The Duck House Parliament. Cromwell always gets a bad press in many quarters, on the left as well as the right, but I do see him as a great figure, and you gave him an almost mythical power in your poem. A collection of poems about the civil war ... now that would be something, wouldn't it? Greg

You're hiding behind the sofa?! That's where Dalek nits congregate/lurk when they've fallen off their host! They're a nuisance to get out of your carpet and their eggs survive for millennia. Send Fanny The Indian Cow to track them down with her long, cow tongue! She's adorable, by the way!
