Hi Bernadette;
Pleased you are back then. Any advice I think people give you on W.O.L. is open to opinion as nobody has the same opinion whether you take it or not (but I think it’s always worth posting to see what other people think)– same goes whether you get the advice at a reading or a writing group (Used to run a writing group myself – will be starting one up again in September I think) or even at a reading before or after. I think the important thing is you reach a conclusion with a piece you are happy with. If so, the world is your oyster!
Hope you are scribbling plenty still (I am in the process of sorting out some more stuff for W.O.L. as I am just back from tour with my spoken word collective and I came back with a fistful of new pieces).
Cheers
Andy N

Hi Andy. Loved your sample poems! Animals In Their Bags makes me think of my daughter and her friends (all around 14 months) - I found the poem very real and true to life, especially the last line - the adult who just has sandwiches in his / her bag (and if anything like me, now feels a little silly for not having an animal in their bag too!). Brief Encounters is hilarious with its unexpected ending and Perfect Place is simply beautiful - I've also been to this perfect place and I think you've captured it beautifully for anyone else who's been there too! You capture the scene in all your poems really well and I have no problems imagining I'm right there. Looking forward to reading more. Dianna

Hi Heather! Welcome to WOL! Thanks for your comment on 'And finally...' I've had a read of your stuff and it's good work! Perhaps those people at the other site weren't just trying to curry favour? I know from experience that it's hard to take praise as genuine but in your case, I think it happens to be true! I particularly like Finger in the Dust; keep them coming! I for one would like to read more of your work! :-)

Hello Ann, yes the eye is a bit 'in your face' isn't it. Hazel is the colour, as near to my own as i could find. Green/brown.
Sorry you won't see it again though. I have decided to depart from the site. Keep up with your writing and keep on blogging. No-one can ever accuse you of not having a good comment to poem ratio. It shines from you how much you enjoy the site and interacting with others on here. You remind me of me when i first joined. Unfortunately, the buzz has died as well as the inclination to write.
Bye and thanks for looking in.

Hi Isobel, thanks for your comment, re- poetry-love affair.
Thing is, that is exactly what it has been for me. Turbulent, traumatic at times, beautiful and downright sexy at others. I don't think you saw my more raunchy ones. I have a very good sense of humour but it tends to come across as sarcasm when i attempt it in poetry.
I've finally, finally decided that the poetry performance scene isn't for me and so my time on here is over.(for good this time) :-)
I wish you well, it suits you and i know you still get a great buzz from it. That's gone out of it for me, as has the inclination to write any more.
See ya, love Janet.xx

BTW - I'm glad to hear you're fine & maybe I was falling into the trap of thinking "this is what you write, so this is what you are or believe". Big mistake ! And trudging round the Asda aisles alone - no - luckily for me - at that time - I'd long since learned to let go of regrets. xx

Hi Anne, thats fine, thanks for your comments on the Nature poem, the meanings are simply one of people decaying as well as buildings etc, Im sure you already understood that, I was just reflecting back on your cat poem and how that too had layers, great minds think alike! x

Thanks for your comment Anthony - it means a lot that you liked it. I was hoping for a slightly softer voice but put a microphone in front of me and I seem to get edgy. On reflection I think it might have been better in a lower key. Not sure myself how it works as a french poem - there is probably one cliche in it - life being compared to lightning - but it rhymed and I was working under additional constraints!
When are you posting another one?

Aye - all's well that ends well.
this says it all for me -
"I would never UNWISH that now cos to do so would be to unwish its consequences - my children". That's my point - if you would not unwish it, then in my book its not a regret - just musings. besides, its only my take on things, not gospel. xx

Dave. Thanks for your comments on Anything Goes. The rhyme scheme crept in as a result of listening to Leonard Cohen one day. It's more of a song, I suppose, with Anything Goes as the refrain. It's about literary pretensions, would you believe!

Hi - great poem Isobel & you are so right about our struggles in life fuelling our art. My life has been very shitty in parts, (and probably, like many people, I seriously thought of ending it) - but still, not anything like as hard as yours, but I have been lucky in finding a "trick" to banish all regrets. For me, having a regret is a wishing that your life had been otherwise, (is that what you mean ?) - which (for me) is a negative view and unattainable anyway. There's nothing wrong with capitalising on our troubles & turning them into art, but (for me) to have regrets is to dwell on the past - to "agree" to be a victim of what may very well have been intolerable at the time. But that is in the past & by "agreeing" to hold onto our regrets (to "indulge" in them) - one cannot help but be (at least partly) governed & defined by them.
I know I sound like a vicar here - and I'm not at all religious - but if you Wanted to let go of your regrets - as I did - you can simply let go of them - not forget them, but deny them their hold over you. I haven't forgotten my troubles, but they no longer affect or define who I am. If your definition of Regrets is different than mine, then maybe your use of them to build your art is a good thing for you - an exorcising of your ghosts - but for me they would no longer be defined as regrets, just memories. It does sound as if I just like hearing the sound of my own voice here!
Sermon over :)

Hello Larisa - thanks for commenting on A Childhood. It is sad, I hope things get better for her. She is a real girl, the poem is made up of the bits and pieces that you hear about someone else's life when you live in a small community. You can know so much about someone that you have never even talked to. Not sure if that is good or bad! Part of village life. Stay well. xx
