Hi Gemma,
Love 'We Watched It Live' especially after hearing you perform it, interesting that Al Jazeera do 'as is' news and we have to wait for Wikileaks to find out the truth.

re: When more has been said than done: I have generally been eating salami and cheddar toasties with birds-eye chillies thrown in when I've been writing. Not overly exciting but very nice nonetheless.

Thank you very much for your appraisal of "Diving" and "When More Has Been Said Than Done." It is always a pleasure to hear feedback from you. I've been writing as avidly as before but have been more and more critical of my work, editing each one to death before being happy with the ones I've posted. I noticed your "Lines on Picasso's APERITIF" as being very elegant and also very apt. I hope to be able to get to Poetica again before too long. All the best
- Josh

Ta very much Cyn (Time).
life-cycle: it's really a comment on relativity - that doesn't quite work, because Einstein, Hawking, etc are factoring in one element that doesn't even exist - Time!

Hi Ann, thanks for your comment on my effort at a freedom themed poem..
and it's lovely to be back here :-)
Your comment has helped me to realize that sometimes it doesn't matter what the readers think a poem is about but if it matters to the writer how it is interpreted, further work may be needed.x

No, I didn't realise you actually lived in Selby, John. You will have seen the Selby coalfield pits come and go in that time. I was there for just a a year in 1977, as a district reporter for the Yorkshire Evening Press/Yorkshire Herald. I drove from York each day. When I used to return from visits down south, the sight of the Ferrybridge C cooling towers on the horizon were like a border post to me, telling me I was now back in the north! PS I've put up a poem, Treading Water, that I wrote a few months ago, about my impressions of Selby as a callow youth more than 30 years ago. I'm sure I'd see it with different eyes now.

Thanks for the comments on Tom Pudding, Greg. As you probably guess I still live in Selby and had 20 years in mining, so these are well remembered amongst us older lot.
Don't query the accuracy of it all though - there's a fair bit of poetic licence in there. For instance, Prince of Wales Colliery isn't on the canal.

Quite spooky that you detect an "Irishness" about it. When I wrote the final lines I kept singing the song "Farewell to the tent and the old caravan, To the gypsy, ti-tum-tim, the travelling man, And farewell to the life of the rover".
Liked the shopping list. It reminds me of the times I've have fish and chips twice with a can of diet coke.

Thanks for the comment on my attempt on the freedom theme.
I won't say where it alludes to. I prefer to leave it to the imagination in the hopes it will perhaps allow readers to be reminded of a similar place they might have been themselves.
It's a trial and error with poetry i have going on here which i haven't tried before so hope it works in that sense for you :-)

I didn't want to say so on the message board though in case it's just me being thick. XX

No worries Rachel - like I say, I don't know you, but I've been in that situation, with a small child, and it's incredibly difficult. You will pull through though - both of you. Would be good to meet you sometime. My advice now - get plenty of chocolate, crisps and pop in, and watch some crappy kids films tucked on the couch with your lass :)

Hi - I know this sounds mad, but I've actually built our business around the "wild & wacky" ideas I'd had after a few spliffs.
I wrote em down & the next day they still seemed sensible - just broadens your horizons. Maybe they should hand out spliffs at No 10 cabinet meetings - we might get some sensible governance then :)

find a copy of the picasso picture on line and download it to your desk top then go to the make blog entry page. Near where it says 'picture' to the right of the blank box click on 'Browse' when you have found the pic on your desk top, double click on it and the rest will happen automatically if not instantly. Hope this helps. If not tell me the name of the painting and I will post up your poem (it will be in my name however)

Well it was a bit different for me as I stayed on til the next day. Very odd being there pretty much on my own, I could still see and hear you all, like a lot of very nice poetic ghosts! Went for a long walk and wrote Turning Circle. Positively luxuriated in a room to myself (after two nights on a settee)and slept!

Almost. On Sunday night I was still 'in a lower bunk; couldn't orient myself at all: faces, poetry, sessions, conversations - the whole bit. I just THREW myself into the entire experience, and therefore needed time to reorient. Same with you?
