Hi Val - I hope we will still be seeing you at Butterflies in Bolton - have missed you the last couple of times I went to the Howcroft. I like the new venue - I always found the Howcroft a bit too bright - like an operating theatre. The welcome was always lovely there and a good atmosphere - though Sunday isn't a great night to have anything on. They will have to get more seating in Butterflies if it takes off though - or maybe I'll start taking my mum's shooting stick...heating also!
I can't make the first one but hope to see you there at some point.
Isobel x

Hello John
As promised I have re read your poetry postings and find them all delightful… why indeed would I not.
Under the Wire - is my most favourite, in a class of its own..
‘Lost’ Ghazal - Once again superb in it crafted simplicity…. I’m not a great fan of this style of poetry, something missing I feel ?
Liken to fine china that clunks rather than pinging..
As to the slightly more erotic, the pretty ‘Triolet’ is, I think very well crafted and observed, however I would have been unhappy including the words ‘alleviate’ and ‘stress’, in my humble opinion I find them angular and jarring in a poem which outlines a ritual so secret and special.. I would, had it been my poem, chosen to replace it with a new line altogether utilising the word ‘press ‘or ‘less’
Sometimes (Extended Rhyming Mix) - is my favourite in this genre wonderful lovely echoing imagery, beautiful mood paintings within all of the lines.
I also have a feeling that you yearn to write more erotica but are perhaps self limiting by your intellectual inhibitions , what I mean is, that you perhaps try to completely smother the sometimes absurd, gaudy, and gratuitous nature of the subject by overworking cleverly constructed subtleties. Instead of be as intellectually timorous perhaps, dare I say, a more hands on approach…
…boom boom
Enjoy being ribald and risqué.
I have enjoyed my jaunt through your recent poetry postings, thank the Lord you are not as prolific as one or two on this site.
Many thanks and well done all of your work is superb.
Augusta xx

oh so! you intend to gad about-whats new there then! as to walking the southwest way-that wouldnt be in the direction of the cliffs edge would it? hee hee...getting up hills?why walk up them when you can walk down them?..tee hee take two(stop me if I get too funny)and as for liking to be free spirited-you are a dead big lot more free spirited than Queen Freespirit herself-thats so easy to see in all your vastly-vastly-vastly improving poetry. The consolation, for the want of putting it better regarding Gems is that she is no longer suffering-and that thought you, as I do, with 'me little golden Yorkieboy (Pepe) must cling to-ok? and yes when the youth of spring takes your hand,be assured the cobwebs once more will dissipate-you have my word on it! enjoy your day Ann-if I dont see you before Christmas-all the Georgey(best)love-Stef.xx

Me again, Foxy.
We might look a little chavvy supping mouclade from a cup. It's a spicy, curry-like, dish of mussels. But for you, Foxy, I'd sup it out of a cup.

Thanks for your appraisal of "Bigotry" Cynthia. I intended there to be a villanelle (which I've had to change slightly to make it more coherent in the final quatrain) with a prosaic stanza of the same length as the villanelle (19 lines). Within which to compare and contrast the two and, as you probably have guessed, to denounce bigots soley biased to either vein. I think it needs editing but there are quite a few things to it that I definitely want to keep as well. I'll try to get around them but it sometimes takes me a while to think how to get around a certain obstacle.
All the best
- Josh

Part of the firmament - you are a lovely - you can be the moon controlling all the tides...
What I was trying to say was that I don't really need catharsis any more. I've dealt with my past and put it behind me. That poem got written because I read two other poems on here - one that upset me and one that made me think. Would agree that poetry has lifted me, given me something other than drudgery to look forward to, stimulated the brain, introduced me to lots of fascinating people - and I'm not too bad at it on a good day - so it's made me proud of myself - which is very, very important. It hasn't done much to help keep my house clean though :(xx

Cheers for your comments on East Budleigh, Andy. I hope the tone isn't just sad, but is also about how we view the past, and yearn to preserve it in a certain way. I was interested that you linked it to the wartime death of your uncle in Burma. My father survived - lucky for me - after three years as a prisoner of the Japanese in Thailand. Greg

Morning Houston!
Erm, my ghazal...it's in the post ;D Seriously - I'm waiting for it to be born heh.
Thanks for your comment on 'childhood'. Well, the i-museum is effectively me...the building that houses me/I. A museum is a store for historical things, yes? So that small girl, who was hurt so badly, is still in there, hiding. It was a kind of continuation of the sample piece, which I wasn't sure about doing at first, but it seemed to fit, and I suppose becomes a motif. Louise Bourgeois made art connected to her mother all her life. I find that fascinating.

Thanks for your lovely comment Win. I'm so glad that you could see the hope at the end - that is just what I wanted. I never want to be defined by my past - I really do want to move on. It was important for me to say that the inspiration came from other people - feeling the same feelings all over again, through other people's suffering. You seem to have crystalised my thought for me in fact. Someone I showed it to wanted me to change that ending for something more powerful - but I just couldn't. Now I see why. x
