Hi Cynthia,
Thanks re bitter-sweet affair. I think the 'sweet' part is only really there if you know the subject matter.
I suppose 'blurred' is almost apt re 'green' though it would be in a very lateral sense and again only really understood by me. ( not sure if this is good or bad ha ha )
Either way, i appreciate your input x

Cheers m'dear for your comment on Melancholy - I wasn't aware of your version of Thomas so thanks for the extra info :) It is very similar to my own feelings when writing that piece actually. Realised that my plan-making doesn't always lead to clarity of mind, and in fact, I sometimes make situations so much more difficult for myself!

Thanks for your kind comments on Two Candles. It's all 'real', it did happen. Funny how some things demand to be written about.

Cynthia - thank you for your kind comment on Two Candles. The candles are real and it did happen and yet, as you say, it has allegorical force.

Thanks, Laura. Was just doing a "thanks" comment to Winston and realised the poem came from a 25 year old memory. I wrote it in one go - no changes except Ray's suggested hyphens. Amazes me where it comes from sometimes. Thought I'd lost it with the (as you know) recent changes.
Looking forward to seeing you soon. Thursday?? & of course Saturday! Big X

Thanks Winston for commenting on "Black-Edged". It was a privilege to write as it came as quick as Joy says in her comment on the same poem. The only changes from the first write where exactly those Ray suggested. Sometimes it really is a magical thing to write. It was also from an old memory - my Grandad died in 1986. So strange to think that memory had lain there all that while and suddenly is communicated in this way. XXX

I'm gobsmacked by that interchange. Could I just vouch for the fact that Rachel was the most worthy of winners. The poem was performed beautifully and connected John, the MAN, with the rest of humanity - a great character but imperfect, like the rest of us. It was a gentle piece though and I don't think you could possibly judge it off paper.
If you want something that made people feel more for him, perhaps you should have read mine Andrew. Here's the link. You'll be disappointed to hear that I didn't getplaced.

Hi Andrew, Thanks for the candour. I'm sorry you feel John would be disappointed, though I don't quite understand how you'd ascertain that, with all due respect. I responded to the competition with my own honest interpretation, which was memory-based and limited as I was young when he died. Everyone who entered presumably came at it from their own perspective, I'd be interested to read yours, why not make a profile on here and post it up as a blog? As for the lack of impact of my poem on you personally, I feel poetry is a very subjective thing and also, seeing the words flat on paper is very different to seeing it performed (it was a performance competition). Thanks again for your comment.
Rachel

With all do respect: Congrates on your win on the Lennon contest! It's ironic how they invited the world, but only rewarded the U.K.! I read your poem, and related it to anyone! Didn't feel John's heart, only your memory of a harbor of! I entered, but being from the U.S., probably saw a trash can and not consideration! I think John would have been very disappointed! Not that I should have won, but at least considered! Thank You for making others, feel nothing for him!

Hi Laura;
Thanks for the comment over 'Up on the Bridge'... Wasn't the easiest piece in the world to write, must admit and getting the two events to link together was particularly hard, but in the end it's worth it.
Glad you like it... Will be looking forward to reading this around over the next few weeks..
Hope you are good x - Andy N

Hi Isobel;
Cheers for the comment over 'Up on the Roof'.. Yeah, the reference to the woman interviewing and the woman isn't perhaps that clear.. I will amend it when I get chance.
Must admit too - caused me some trouble this piece too and am generally pleased you liked it. (the subtle nature of the piece was the bit that caused me the most problems).
Hope you are good.
See you soon x
