Hello David, Re: Highway to Heaven - life changing perhaps rather than intriguing and certainly scary for those who have them - mine being at the top of Ayers Rock in Oz some years ago but it came with a free ride to hospital in a flying doctor's plane. Many thanks for your comments.

Thanks for your comment Cynthia and for picking up that spelling mistake. I do know the difference but sometimes I just don't proof read well enough. I'd always much rather people pointed stuff like that out cos they serve as distraction otherwise. That is one of my favourite poems - I just love the rebelliousness in it. Girl power! x

Hi Laura;
Thanks for your comment over Leaving Belfast... It's certainly a piece where the detail carries it I think, but am pleased you like it. It's one that has made the live set for me and Jeff's band, so you'll end up hearing it again at some point, but thanks for the encouragement.. x
P.S. - hope Sale goes well next week.. x

Paedos are bad, but the poem is great.

Like I said, her poem is great.
I was on about the comments like this
"Theres something to be said for castration".
[OK... so which bit do we cut off when the abuser is female, then?]
whatever next - are we all off out lynching niggers?

Hi - you are absolutely right about reclamation - and I hadn't thought of that.
Like I said to Kath, the poem is marvellous, but the comments (for me) were drifting off into maudlin-ness... so I just thought I'd wreak a little havoc :) [and make a point at the same time] xx

Thanks for the good comment Amy - glad you like 'Hobson's Choice Words' - it probably stopped me killing my neighbour and it usually goes down well when I perform it...'Born to Greatness' has a great energy to it...make sure you use those bus journeys for material - I used to get a bus and a train to work and taking mental notes on the conversations and people's mannerisms made it less of a chore
All the best
Dave

Hey - we are almost writing in real-time here.
I'm not saying that I am "right" (or wrong) or that I know better, only that -
1. - your poem is great.
2. - the comments were getting a little maudlin
so I thought I'd stir it up a bit... sorry.
still doesn't take anything away from your poem - as me & everyone else says - Marvellous

Hi - re: Kath Hewitts poem, Daddy's Girl.
....yes, it was just good old-fashioned bad taste. But seriously, I was once told that if you can laugh at bad things, even really bad things - (Hitler, Pol Pot, paedos etc) - it takes away their power, diminishes them & brings them back down to a human scale where we can deal with them as we ought. Her poem is really great, but the flip side of the coin is that fear breeds fear, whereas if you can laugh at a tyrant it takes away their power over you. Many jewish comedians have jokes about the holocaust. Only my 2 cents. all the best. B

Hi - Re your comments....
"Hi,
Thank you for you initial comment re Daddys girl.
If the offer of sweeties was supposed to be funny, it wasn't. I thought it was in pretty bad taste. If you meant something else by it, please explain. Kath".

Hello Ann re Late Night Trains I travelled overnight on the Blue Train from Joburg to The Cape (1500k) a couple of times some years back and was astonished to see that we had armed guards on board who were quick to make their rifles obvious when we arrived at some of the outback stations. Small wonder Agatha Christie and other authors found trains so compelling to write about - they create an atmosphere all of their own. Thanks very much for commenting.

Thank you for your kind comment, on my poem "MY Mother's Gentle Hands." I have added an audio version of this poem. I am horrible with computers, my husband had to convert this audio from WMA into mp3 format.
I especially like your poem "Women Like Stars".
I like poetry that shows the bond and strength of women.
Thanks

I believe the bastard is still alive albeit minus one eye. Apparently had a nasty accident with a bungee cord ( roof rack kind ) that left him with a cycloptic look!! Shouldn't really find it funny, but i really do lol
