Isobel, I'm glad you like "Passing By". I
guess most of us can recall that memorable
moment when eyes meet and sparks fly - but nothing comes of it...and this brings youth back, for it is certainly a magic part of that
time of life.

Thankyou very much for commenting on My Least Favourite Things. I do hope to rectify the balance by doing something a bit more complimentary about Selby in the near future. Also, congratulations on winning AE's Happy Competition, though how a miserable old bint like you won I'll never know!

Perhaps what cost christmas? I added a couple of verses to this put have not put the editied version up here..it reads ok, sets the scene. Forlorn is okish I think...gonna look at my online dictionary to see what I can come up with..and I think is is fine to use one..my head is not so full of words and I am not so articulate as to be able to have all the right words..the idea yes, but not all the right words..obviously my own opinion. :) And having looked on Rhyme Zone I think I may use castaway?.

Yes indeed the original is nearly twice as long, but in Hiawatha's day you had to walk everywhere, whereas I was able to utilise the car and the aeroplane.
If I can clear my brain though, I may well try a Part 2 in the future

Good to have you on board. Just to say that I'm enjoying keeping up with your reminiscences. I feel it's very important that information like this is recorded somewhere for future generations.

'girl in a lake' is a breathtaking read, almost literally so, altho i would do something about that last stanza - it seems so out of place, and 'folded her clothes over her mind' is too oblique to me.
and no, cynthia, i don't mind at all that you critique my work - that's why i put it up here. people who use this site simply to chat should go to myface

Thanks for your comment on ‘An Old Man’. I wasn’t sure how to structure the verse initially, I may review it later. The gist of my purpose was to portray an inner loneliness and vulnerability and the comfort one seeks to cope with it. A sort of mental foetal position. Thanks again. I’ll be at the Emperor in Cambridge on Feb 13. So come along if you can.

Hiya, yes of course it was alright. What was it Abraham Lincoln said? 'You can please some of the people all of the time...' etc. I'm a bit distracted today. I don't mean to be terse.

Hey hey the world's in flames and only us poets can put it out [well, us and, paradoxically, the firebrands.] Songs of Innocence and Songs of Experience is one of my fave reads - would that I could think/write like Bill Blake. Alas not. I'm ankle-high by comparison. And to think he did so much more too! I don't even think of myself as being at J.C-C's level - perhaps waist-level.

Thank you for reading my poem. I didn't think anyone would bother. I'm learning how to take the time myself to read other people's work. That is the way to learn. We have a lot in common. I feel honoured to have been alive at the same time as Picasso. A true genius. Less relevant my love of music is as broad as it is wide. And conversation if you're going to bother has to be stimulating. If you're not doing anything early September then we have a Literary Festival here in France. Ask away if you need further details. Best wishes Glyn

Anthony,

I liked that muscle line for the relationship between rustle/muscle and then over/other but it is a very strange image. Maybe your muscles feel differently in zero G.

Hi Win, believe it or not, i have the very same book. It is my favourite all time book and has been in my possession ever since my days in the army. (i think i bought it about 1989). I used to belong to the Encounters book club, alas, i can find no trace of that book club nowadays. I have viewed it that much, and it has travelled far, so much to say, it is in tatty condition now lol. But yes, such an awe inspiring subject. We could debate it all night, i just wish i could go into far off galaxies sometimes.
best wishes
mike

Hi Mike, Thx for looking at my space stuff... you are right it is a massive awe inspiring subject. Images of Earth is a found poem however, All the lines in it were found in
'The Home Planet (Images and Reflections of Earth from Space Explorers)'. Kevin W.Kelley. Macdonald Queen Anne Press 1988. I was interested to see how comments from these astronauts expressed themselves in this book and how these experiences might alter their religion and philosophy. Whether this explores that idea or not I don't know but I do like these exercises. Truth is that this thing is so big, how can anyone do it justice in words? Win

Thanks Dave for your comments and encouragement for the Quarry Man.I was a bit worried how it would work. I will certainly put the Golden Vision on cos I like that myself. It brings back happy memories. I've got a few other football/sport related ones to put on when i get round to it.
I really enjoyed The Tudor the other night, great energy and friendly scene. I was telling everyone at the Middleton WOL last night about it.

How does he get away with it? Just read your profile poems for the first time since forever, Ann, and was very struck by them. I'm an incompetent birdwatcher and love Divers - such very special birds and this has got their strange otherness to a T. Fantasia is very special - Moxy's said it for that poem.
