Thanks again Martin for liking the poem I left in the comments of 'school' - it was originally written as therapy but I quite like the way it turned out! I might be brave enough to blog it!

thanks very much for commenting on Black Christmas - really pleased that you liked it. As always, an insightful response, no mother would ever want her son down the pits - but, in an age when the stigma of the dole shamed hard working men from going on it, the mines were often the only alternative to earn a living - as many of my classmates found. Luckily, I didn't need to. Apologies for not responding sooner - I really must get my act together in 2016. Cheers

thanks very much for commenting on Black Christmas - really pleased that you liked it. The profession is a hard one - and mothers would never want their sons to go down a mine - but, as I learned from school mates - sometimes that's all there was in order to make a living - at a time when there was a stigma to the alternative - being on the dole. Apologies for not responding sooner - I really must get my act together in 2016. Cheers

The Smile
Skeleton praise
For who I am
And what the pen will say.
I belong;
And belong in a different way.
Inherent,
From the outset,
Curling cold
From tongues that split
In shades
Of blue and ice to form
On lips whose root
Is from the scarred mind.
Oblivious to truth
And scattered liberalism
Flawed,
For freedom is in the freed mind
And not,
The acting out
Of freedom
But,
The journey
From the darkness
Through to Light.
Bitterness,
It seems,
Still reigns in liberated hearts
And packs a punch
In the smile that,
Behind,
Is filled with it.
Freedom,
Real freedom,
Is from the self
And in not the embrace
Of blindness…

ginsberg yes! i love the beats, especially Kerouac. reading 'on the road' was quite a transformative event in my life.howl is wonderful, especially read live (harder to get on board on paper but live you get the sense more of the breathing and the rhythm of the piece). and yes, bukowski is a huge influence. he had the knack of being interesting enough that when he wrote about mundanity it became interesting. that is what we are all striving for in my view.

But now I shall unpack it
From the attic of my mind
Pull it out into the light
From the place it's been consigned

Thanks again Stu! I wrote a poem two years ago about 'Gold' and now I seem to be addicted to poems about metal. Probably something chemical they've put in the water.

Oh my. Finally a living modern day poet who I can get on board with. I was beginning to give up hope. You are incredibly talented. We also appear to share some of the same influences (Plath and Bukowski) which may also be why I love your writing. I see some Ginsberg influence in there as well? Amazing. Thanks so much for sharing.

thanks for reading me Vicki - I've been enjoying your work btw - I have plenty more on here if you care to take a look.
I noticed your uploaded photos - you might like to see mine: http://colsibabes.blogspot.co.uk/ - I like messing around combining words and images although I've been a little lost for words these past few weeks -

Hello Thoughts,
I see you posted this up last February and have not received any comments yet.
Your biog is the soul of brevity. I understand a reluctance to say too much to strangers, but I suppose that if you opened up a bit more, people would respond. Most people are friendly on here, and we don't get trolls much. I have never seen a nasty comment. The site is moderated well.
I hope you will have another go, and give us more of your thoughts.

Thank you Freda for your comments on my profile - I think we have a similar style - I've enjoyed reading your work here - I like that you write about 'real' & otherwise thought of 'mundane' things - I think poems can be found in anything - I have one about head lice!! X

Hi Vicky,
I specially like your Excess Baggage. You show us how to deal with our own issues, but you are also cleverly telling the story of Pandora's box, with hope hidden underneath all the woes. Nice one.

You have a very honest way in your poetry, lovely, thoughtful and refreshing, a strange encounter seems pleasing that it was a brief encounter too, although in the mans defence, I don't think he is on his own, I think most men notice charms first :-), bless you, have a merry Christmas.. What's left, I hope you have a fun filled new year too.
