Plastic Jesus

Plastic Jesus on the dashboard

St. Christopher pinned to the visor

a rosary around the rear view

all the insurance he needs

just in case

he hits a fire hydrant or a house

or another speeding car

when the flashing lights come on

one last gulp before he's pulled over

patted down and tested

he walked the line

but fell off before the end

drunk tank blues

misery loves company

Miranda rights and mug shot

the judge gives him a stern lecture

suspended drivers license

and 60 days community service

he's got a record now

but no one was killed

plastic Jesus worked all right

he saved some innocent lives tonight

there is no sense in driving stoned

save misery, include your own.

Hmm, I can't speak for anyone else but I only comment on a poem when I feel compelled to. Only a few poems tick 'that box' in my head so that I have to say something - it just so happens that somehow you manage this feat at least every other day and it continues to be a pleasant surprise to me. Please don't stop. ? P.S. Thank you D!

thanks Tom
for reading "Plastic Jesus"
you are the only one who did.
but i will continue to write
despite the lack of interest
it beats table tennis.

II also like YOUR style of writing.
You are an excellent poet
even though you have wet shoes.

If you are gone
you will be missed
why drive while stoned
not worth the risk.
