Too Late

It's already too late.

Too late to put the oil back in the ground.

Too late to re-bury all that coal.

Too late to unbleach the coral, freeze the meltwater, suck the carbon out of the air.

The forest has already burned.

The plastic is already there.

It's too late to remove the poison from our rivers, the litter from the whale, or the people from the wrong places.

Species are already extinct.

The climate has already changed.

Nothing we can do will change what's already happened.

Doing nothing is accepting a ruined future.

It's not too late to limit our impact.

It's not too late to care.

'So, I respect all opinions. I just don't agree!'

I agree - with you....

This debate fascinates me.

Some ecossystems are used to fires, they've evolved with them.

Just because a tree regenerates after a fire, doesn't mean that a really big fire is inocuous.

The scale, frequency and impact of events is getting, and will get, worse.

I, too, cannot understand the lack of concern and urgency I see in the world.

You cannot change it, it's too late already - this is happening to the world, now.

Just because we will be wiped from this planet in the end, does not mean we should all do what we can to hasten that end.

I acknowledge, though, that one of the great aspects of life is that we share opinions, and I know I don't agree with everyone, and vice versa.

So, I respect all opinions. I just don't agree!

Rich, you are spot on here!

So many people are in denial about our negative impact on the planet (and just in denial of basic observable science in general).

I have been working on something similar recently but it's not ready to share yet. Like you, I want to stick the irrefutable facts and not get caught up in the denier's game of semantics. We can't 'save the planet' from its ultimate fate - but we can certainly curb the impact of mankind which is accelerating the planet's poisoning. I honestly don't understand anyone who is still in denial about this.

As Don says; It's not too late to care. And it's not too late to try.

Although this latest load of fires have been far greater than the annual forest fire season that Australia usually experiences, few appreciate that the trees do regenerate. I was astonished to see the effects on wild land close to my son's house in 2003 fully regenerated in 2008.

And remember how nature produces new sprouts from the scorched
earth -reminding me of lines from a memorable Binyon poem about
rot and corruption going to the fire....to be born anew.
Fire has alway been synonymous with nature's ultimate cleansing power. .

Top stuff. Positivity rocks.

It's easy to complain. Seeing a path through the darkness matters.

Stay positivie. You can be lifted.
