You Must Believe the Bible Son

You Must Believe the Bible Son

(Being Sunday I thought this appropriate.  A true story about me)

When I was just a little boy

My daddy said to me

You must believe the Bible son

Yes daddy, I see

When I was just a teenager

I went to 'varsity

They taught me how to question things

Question you and me

My father was a preacher

You see where this is headed?

You must believe the Bible son

(Now not so closely wedded)

You must believe the Bible son

Accept it as it's writ

But this does not make sense to me?

It doesn't seem to fit

While he believed in all these things

By faith and faith alone

Education helped me

Hone faith upon a stone

While I no longer go to church

It's logical to me

There could be something after death

A faith is this I see?

You don't get much deeper than this despite the whimsical way you explore the subject.

How many people don't believe but want to believe, I wonder...

Rhyme and rhythm critical
Scansion makes it lilt
Needs to carry message
That's how my rhymes are built

More than simple Jack and Jill
Who up the hill they went
Diddle daddled up on top
Till they both were spent

Now children listen closely (yes??)
What Teacher Don does say (Yes Teacher Don)
On top of hill was hayloft
In which the hay, they play

But Teacher Don please tell us
What currency was spent?
And please what did they spend it on?
To all purpose intent?

Help Mae? Do I say drachmas? (exist in JJ time? Were JJ Greek?). And what's to buy on top of a hill?

I've got myself in a right fix here.....

Teacher Don?... we waiting for well-thought out answers....

Think I'll hit the bottle Mae....?

I take comfort in the thought that there's more to life than we can see.
And perhaps the senses are particularly relevant in the context of
human life and awareness. Are we designed to exist with those
which allow us to get along without undue stress and strain while
also permitting us to consider things "beyond our ken"....a sort of
"follow on" signpost for our species? I see (literally) the Moon in
the same way - like a stepping stone in the direction of the "distant unknown destination".

Deep topic this Don - can understand you changing paths - like many of us I might add. The world of science has changed many of the population's opinions - and there are many bites out of the bun. Churches are closing down and are being sold off at a fast rate over here. These days I just try to be thoughtful to people who are elderly or ill. But from talking to people in my area - many of the kids who start off going to church regularly when youngsters - opt out when approaching late teen-hood in preference to dating. Just accept things for what they are without all the guilt. As to your last bit - I am sure most people consider the after life and the what ifs. It is after all, a very big deal. P. ?
