The Poet and The Politician

The Poet and The Politician

What are you doing poet
Standing on your roof ?
Waxing loud and lyrical
My answer to you's 'poof'

But politician on your throne
We put you there on trust
Why aren't you paying attention ?
Our planet's going bust

I'm making lots of money
Got people in my pocket
No way I'm gonna rock my boat
My comfy boat, why rock it?

PostScript

The only way I see change occurring is for a mass people movement led by a strong leader forcing politicians into doing what the people want.

While it might feel good, I don't think poets will change anything. We simply record history and the changes.

But Rose it don't qualify
For Poem Of The Week
It don't have no fluff
And no gloomy bleak

It's gotta be airy
And fairy now Rose
And shit girl no rhyming
No anything-goes

This Aussie he's reckless
We can't pat his back
Our nice WOLer Board
Imagine the flack?

Rose, he's refused his moment of glory....

Shit, you turned the board down ?....

Who needs POTW for fame?......

True.....?

We can get rid of politicians from our lives - but poets seem to hang
around ad nauseam! ?
Seriously, the "vote" is important to the former and the fear of losing
it - and a comfortable position and income - CAN bring change.
Remember that here in the UK, the idea of leaving the European
Union was thought worthy of patronising sniggers and dismissive
waves of the political hand...until the threat of the loss of votes
brought about a long-overdue national referendum which, it was
thought, would comfortably preserve the status quo. Not so!
The battle is on but it will be won....thanks to votes.

You don't think politicians take any notice of community backlash Brian ?

It would be nice to think that any mass movement or grass roots movement has 100% support, but they never do. Look at Brexit 52/48.

Suppose for example that a mass movement started and got 60% support in favour of veganism...would you expect politicians to then make it the law of the land?

Time to put your serious head on Don.

Don,

Brilliant. Another nail in the coffin of greed at the expense of our earthly home. I agree there has to be a grass roots movement which everyone gathers toward. No more use of fossil fuels, no more wars, no more destruction of natural habitats and a halt to the slaughter of whales and other endangered species. F..k all politicians!!!!!! As poets we have the voice of prophecy, the voice of warning and the voice of dissent. Speak out.

Well said matey
Thanks for this
Keith
