'Happy Tuesday' by Lisa C Bassignani is Write Out Loud's Poem of the Week

entry picture

The new Write Out Loud Poem of the Week is ‘Happy Tuesday’ by Lisa C Bassignani - a lip-smacker of a poem with ingredients that include an “extra-tall margarita”, chips and a “king-size” burrito, as well as “fajitas sizzlling at the next table” and “the aroma of onions”. It’s a poem about a moment – and then the moment is gone. On her Write Out Loud profile page Lisa says she is “an artist of many mediums and styles”.  As well as poetry and short stories, “when I am not writing I am engaged in some artistic journey or another. I enjoy painting, crochet, papier mache, decoupage, beading and jewellry making, gardening, cooking, various forms of sculpture and so much more.”

Extra large booth

Extra tall margarita

Chips and salsa

And a king size burrito

Mexican love songs and mariachi music

Piped softly overhead

Smiling faces, laughter

Twinkling lights and colorful flags

A shrine to los muertos

Fajitas sizzlling at the next table

The aroma of onions as loud as the noise

Lost in the ambience

 "Will there be anything else?"

The moment gone

I gather my thoughts and my things

Pay the tab and go home

Just another day in the life

Thank You...to Everyone!
It has been an honor having my work chosen for the week. I love all the comments and my bouquet is busting out of the vase! ??.
The support and camaraderie has been wonderful at WOL, not to mention the learning experience. You're a great, talented and interesting bunch.
Keep thinking and writing.

Hi Lisa,

Congratulations on POTW!

A note of sadness here as well? The diner not managing to communicate the thing that's missing; eating lots alone, getting home alone? Is Happy Tuesday what the restaurant does to attract Tuesday traffic – good deal on burritos that night?

And "los muertos" – who are they and what do they signify?

For me, this is full of enigma and I really enjoyed it.

I know what you mean Tom! So much excellent writing and not enough time.

Thanks again everyone. ❤

"Happy Tuesday" is a real thing for me. I just happened to be at the Mexican restaurant on a Tuesday night. Obviously a winning combination?

Congrats! Lisa. Loved it the first time through, loving it still. "Aroma of onions as loud as the noise"! Grab another 'rita, some chips and salsa, and enjoy. Well deserved.

Nice work Lisa, I'd missed this one. Luckily I read it just before lunch as it made me quite hungry!
