Why Can't I Be Spiderman?

Why Can't I Be Spiderman?

No you can't be Spiderman

Why not? You are a girl

I like to play with boyish things

Give boyish things a whirl

No you cannot play with dolls

Why not? You are a boy

And boys don't play with girly things

Just like them for my toys

Gender is still largely used

To sort toy markets out

Makers will not alter trends

Won't take a different route

In the vivid blues and reds

Trucks and cars for boys

Mini-toys and super heroes

Designed as all-boy toys

For girls we have all kinds of dolls

Dressed in pretty pink

And mini-domestic toys the likes of

Iron boards, kitchen sinks

Wouldn't age and interest be

A better sort of guide?

And make their toys accordingly

Put gender type aside?

Don
I am sure that the attitude that you describe has encouraged little girls to be 'Little Princesses' or 'Little Mummys'.
Such a shame missing out on all that fun - ball games in the park -
clambering on fallen trees - hunting for tadpoles,
And then we wonder why they use too much make-up and have body-image problems.
