Who You Gonna Call?

Things go out on us all the time

they just quit working

one after another

the washer the dryer the fridge

the toaster the computer the car

the water heater the TV

even the lawn mower

our lives are nothing more

than fixing things

as they quit on us one by one

right after the warranty expires

they are members of

the United Brotherhood of Appliances

brothers in arms against us

they know we are vulnerable

in this day and age

if the power goes out

we are done

appliances break down

go on strike

as they protest their long hours

their crummy work environment

their lack of recognition

they know they have us between

a rock and a hard place

we are creatures of our comforts

at the mercy of our gadgets

we plug in

and tune out

until the warning light comes on

then we panic

we are on the grid

and subject to the whims of wind

and the quirks of our engines

one power failure away

from total disaster

when sitting in the dark

without electricity

without cell service

who you gonna call?

I remember and liked those "reliable" roll-up windows too! Unfortunately we live in a new world...smart phones, smart tv's and dumb people. I try to keep technology at a distance because it achieves nothing more than high blood pressure when "things don't work."

Great piece dk?

The sad fact is that the same applies to their inventors - human beings we may or may not know. I'm reminded of the advert
about an East European car that offered manual wind windows
(if you remember them you're as old as I am) as a "back-up" extra
in case the electrics failed. Personally, I'd prefer the hand-wind
any day. Reliable ease of use and exercise combined!!
