Ferlinghetti Street

Lawrence Ferlinghetti the poet

is now celebrating 100 years

to be commemorated with city events

and recognition by San Francisco

the city that he loves

and has often written about

most important of all is

there is now a Ferlinghetti Street

how rare to have a street

named after a poet

a poet could not ask for more

an address forever famous

in letters

in name

a corner of the world duly remembered

as time goes by lovers will walk

friends will meet

and poets will gather

to celebrate this man of letters

as memory darkens

city lights will stay on

each step a Beat

a lasting link

to a poet with

his very own street.
