Claw and Bloody Nail

entry picture

I wear my Fathers temper

Like a belt

Tight about me

A

Fight about me wherever I go

I wear my Father’s second sight

Looking both left and right

So that I might know just exactly

Where you have been

And

 Who you’ve seen

And

More importantly

Where all of this is leading to

Suspicion

Oh

The agony

Raw

Claw and bloody nail

Manifests a thousand fold

So

I have been told

A

Coiling boiling paranoia

Slashing

Splashing crimson illusions

All about my inheritance

Colouring my delusions

No matter

They are

Just hand me downs

I wear my Fathers temper all about me

Like a wide hide leather belt

Brass bound buckled and buggered

I wear my Fathers charming smile

All about me like a crocodile

So that you may see me cry

Try

Take the time to watch

And wait…

…Wait

What …

For me to say sorry?

I wear my Fathers temper like a belt

I like your style very much. You've conveyed your reality with your father poetically and clearly. I can really relate to this one. The end is genius. Loved it!

Hi Gus... Missed this one originally but thankfully you brought it to my attension with a menacing reading last night at the Howcroft which befitted the content of the piece. you have explored an idea here with your usual skill but the power behind your words and impact they have made, both here and last night struck harder with me than ever. Great, hard stuff Gus. Win x

Should I say I like this? It is a good poem. Expresses well the bad things handed down. Plenty of great imagery and imaginative use of rhyme. Very hard to live with someone who wears such a belt even if they are not physically abusive.
