The Poor

How poor are those

who have no goods

who starve in hunger

without good food

yet poorer those

who fall through cracks

whose basic knowledge

sorely lacks

to whom words fail

who cannot write

to whom ideas

hold no delight

so sad are those

described indeed

the poorest those

who cannot read.

This is very sad. I really couldn't bear not to be able to read especially - I think I can remember (I was 4) when my Mum taught me to read, and I suddenly realised I could read whole sentences - not just C A T. A moment of intense joy. Black Beauty was the book - can anyone else remember that?

d. when I worked with the MOD a few years ago, apparently almost a third of the new intake could not read or write!

Unbelievable.

We must also remember that teachers are only allowed to teach what they told to teach... and how they must teach it.

We need to look at who is setting the curriculum for these 'poor' kids.

Blessed are the teachers d.

Great poetic justice.
To be able to read and write can right all the wrongs

Indeed the pen is mightier than the sword.
