First One Last

 

First in line outside your gate.
Never one to be late.
I am no longer whole,
just one more tormented soul.

 

Head in hands on bended knees,
do you listen to my pleas?
This situation I have rehearsed,
I just need to be first.

 

I saw the smile behind your eyes,
to me it was a huge surprise.
I was waiting at the gate;
but this time I was too late.

 

The smile I caught was not for me.
I was not first in your queue;
the truth is; I was never the one for you.
That smile you smiled sailed right past,
I geuss I am just the first one last.
