Dispossessed

Dispossessed

Lives ruined and lived in quiet despair

talents and skills ignored or manipulated

All exist within a hot house

a climate under control where day and night are ordered

by the forces of power to determine their menace

as apathetic weary souls capitulate their minds

in a act of economic weary abandonment

Freedom is available but under control

the armies of the media beat their endless ensemble

as they march past the dias of their lords

The lords take their salute and retire

in the satisfied knowledge that all is well

The ball remains in the court of wealth

under the crown of healthy corruption

Voices of dissent shout but to little avail

as the thought police receive their orders from media HQ

Individuals and Movements rail against the vortex

but the power of the economy drives them into submission

Our very lives are programmed to conform

robbed of our true identities we become automatons

Only at the end may we see clearly how we have been

used and abused

Jon, Taylor, MC., Martin and Hannah,

Thank you all indeed for your kind and constructive comments. As always they are much appreciated. Martin, you are right in that I am on a roll. More are in the pipe line. I think it must be the time of year.

Very powerful poem Keith.
Written with great skill.
There to make us think about what's going on.

I totally agree with you here in terms of words misused. There are a whole plethora of words that are misused or overused. The word I really hate because it is over used and misused is solutions.
I think you are on a roll with the poetry you have been writing recently which is a lot more hard hitting.

Nice one Keith

Taylor. MC., and Jon,

Thank you for your comments. Freedom is a word similar in its useage to love: often misunderstood or wrongly used. It is when freedom is diminished that a civilised society must stand up and challenge the legitimate authority. The enemy of freedom is invariably apathy.

I value all comments enormously
Thank you again

Certainly much to occupy the mind here. But occasionally
I think that the word "freedom" can all too easily translate to "restriction". After all, there can be no total freedom,
only an acceptable level to meet diverse aspirations and needs. The mark of a civilised society is being able to
accept and live with that reality under the law of the land.
