Hallow Halloween

entry picture

Hallow Halloween it’s nice of you to call once again

It’s been a whole long year since you have been around

Things have been frightfully quiet for far too long

I am looking forward to being scared silly by an eerie sound

Put a wicked spell on me well I’ll be doomed and damned

Bewitch me and lure me to your cursed coven

Chop me up alive and kicking into bite sized pieces

Cook me slowly to a tasty crisp in your red hot oven

Oh how I miss ghosts ghouls and evil spirits

Tricking and treating and scaring folks half to death

Pumpkins in windows carved with menacing bright smiles

The grim reaper with fire and brimstone on his breath

Walking through a deserted graveyard at midnight

As ghostly hungry ghouls feast on decaying carcasses

Vampires coming to life and bursting out of their coffins

Bloody ivory fangs glistening in the depraved darkness

Under a full moon urban werewolves prowl and howl

Suddenly I feel a cold hand on my shoulder and freeze

Try to scream in horror but no sound comes out of my mouth

Oh what a decadent night it’s been an absolute breeze

Dawn is breaking and the party has come to a sad end

I knew it was all too much of a good thing to last

Ah well man I had so much fun it’s been a blast

Until this time next year goodbye Halloween

An excellent scary description of Halloween, which fortunately just comes round once a year.Thankfully the kids that knock and scare are still at school. But come 4 o'clock they will be home to roam and scare.

Hi M.C. - You are right. Halloween has definitely been hijacked and commercialised. I never went trick or treating as a kid. Although I did take my own children. A Christian festival stolen by pagans. What the devil. T ?

My reference work on phrases and fables makes NO mention of All Hallows Eve being anything to do with witches
and the rest so popular nowadays. It does mention the word as a derivative of that describing a holy man in the past, logical since All Saints Day follows on. There are
mentions of customs like bobbing for apples but NONE of
the current stuff. So, are we victim of some imported
additions that have no connection with out own calendar
date but provide useful commercial opportunities far in excess of mere fruit? Who can we blame? Let's do it soon!!
