Donations are essential to keep Write Out Loud going

DO NOT...

Do not come to WOL expecting to be feted.

Do not come to WOL expecting to be celebrated.

DO write what you feel instead,

in the hope it might be read.

Treat your words with love and care

And show respect for those who share

Each poem that you chose to post,

Investing each one with the most

Sincere content you can muster

Avoiding ego and its bluster.

Try to say something worth the saying

But avoid the preaching and the praying.

Let your mind take wings and fly -

And your imagination be the sky!

Life should be that simple Mark, but we need to be awkward and challenging as well as anodyne in our work. Nevertheless the sentiment is a good one.

Liked it - a good guide to WOL. Agree with Hannah about the last line., and with Don that we basically write for ourselves, but it is so much more rewarding to find others also enjoy what one writes. Jennifer

"Like it or love it...Or tell me to shove it,
It means that you've read it - and your
comments have said it!"

I won't go MC
And say to go shove it
'Cause we Aussie gents
Are way, way above it ?

Thanks, one and all, for the comments and the "likes".
Good of you to take the trouble and add to the fun of
"taking part" on this site.

The truth is we basically write for ourselves. If others enjoy our work, fine. If not, also fine. We have to keep reminding ourselves of this. Look at all the posts getting no comments and likes. They continue regardless. We write to express ourselves not to get accolades - or should do ?

It's not always easy posting on here.
I love the last line of this.
Creativity must be free to grow and fly.

If truth be told I expect most of us expect to be feted/celebrated but reality soon kicks in when we find we're not. We then become more reasonable and settle back in the way your poem continues. Good piece MC.
