Vacant Lot

VACANT LOT

A vacant lot

is all there is now

that the house was torn down

to make way for progress

and more apartments

more people to take up the space

which once held only 4

a family of mom and dad

daughter and son

now remembered only by

the concrete slab of the house

they once called home

a bare reminder of those who

spent their lives here

let this tombstone

mark their graves

let the wind

sing out their praise

let us pause as we drive by

remembering their passing.

Nice poem - very nostalgic- agree with Keith that a ruined or demolished house has something sad about it.

Memories are what's left of this world, some in the hearts of human and some lingering in the air around us, waiting for it to be felt.

There is something quite sad about a building being demolished as its demise takes with it countless memories. A simple concrete or wooden edifice has its own character and history. When I re visit place after many years and see that some building is no longer there I lament its passing.

A good poem
