Spring

Blue sky and stillness in the air

Birds tweeting and the smell of pine

Heart leaping at the thought of a long, hot summer

Flinching as a bumble bee drones by

Reminiscent of childhood fears.

World issues seem far away, or are they?

Pollution identified in plastic and contrails

Disgust and irritation on the treatment of nature

Adrenalin pumping resentment

With environment policy failure

Where is the change in everyday lifestyle?

Each one of us accountable for the position we’re in

Each one of us with the capacity

To make the change that is essential

To protect this planet of ours becoming a contaminated, poisonous dustbin

Dark thoughts interrupted by the sound of water over stone

Warm sun on an unprotected face

Lay back in the scent of springtime

Eyes closed, breathing deeply, seasonal syndrome is upon us

The world and its troubles left for another day.

Stuart,

Thank you for this poem which is thought provoking with an underlying tension of urgency. I go along with all you say as I find the global predicament as regards pollution quite frightening. A good poem.
