The Bohemian Cafe

The Bohemian Cafe

It lived true to its name like no other

with mismatched furniture and an odd cover

Not one cup, plate or knife were the same

its clientele seemed only a little tame

The floor was built of unusual planks

as no loan was forthcoming from the banks

Shady deals were often carried out

amidst many a cheer and shout

A strange scent permeated the air

as if from the local ganja fair

Cushions with padding half hanging out

several bizarre characters drifted about

Beverages were served to those so incliined

but many had brought a bottle of wine

Electronic music with a pulsating beat

but in winter there was little or no heat

Empty ashtrays were left as a reminder

of days when fags were smoked with cider

Gothic and punk fashion still prevailed

with Che Guevara on the wall emblazoned

The elderly tended to stay well away

as the young and zany held sway

Those who worked there looked rather vague

and there was charity drop bottle of Dimple Haig

It bore the resemblance of a converted cave

and to step inside one needed to be brave

Thank you for all your comments as they are much appreciated. I go the Bohemain Cafe almost everyday but only for their Carrot Cake.

Such places are hard to find and are to be welcomed, although you give warnings Keith. No crime can be worse than bland uniformity in my book.

An interesting and salutary poem!

I think we all we had those places we liked to hang out when we young almost proud of the fact our parents would not approve let alone dare to set a step in such an establishment.

Love it Keith

I like the Dimple bottle reference...we all saved our small change that way.
