Poverty - A Chasm too Great

Poverty - A Chasm too Great

I walk a sandy road in my bare feet

with the occasional stranger do I meet

Yet you are far away, in the very same day

Do you think we will ever meet one day

You wander around a department store

going about from floor to floor

Shelves piled high with pricey attire

from this you never seem to tire

My wardrobe is shorts and T shirt

most of which are stained in dirt

I care not how I look or appear

because there is no mirror here

You sit by a pool and chill out

as we go in search of a water spout

You enjoy luxury and wealth

but we gain only by stealth

We live in worlds apart

and this was so from the very start

Do you ever give me a thought

when your bags are full with what you have bought

I have no horizon to contemplate

for me such ambition is too late

I am in a rut with no end

I cannot see around the bend

You have to eat more than you need

I am here to plant a seed

You are blessed and fortunate indeed

yet sadly a slave of greed

To love and to embrace

is the best of our human race

No matter where we come from

in the sight of God we are as one

A profound piece! I found the last two stanzas to be very powerful. Greed and money...the root to all evil. A really great piece.?
