French Heat

The weather map seems to have burst into flame

We wonder if climate change is to blame

Perspiration pours down skin like tears

I’m in shorts for the first time in 20 years

The city roasts in a concrete sea

This weekend we await the 39th degree

It’s too hot to move and the kids won’t nap

We need drinks on demand and patience on tap

But the thing that bugs me most, I fear

It’s even too hot to drink wine or beer

And we sweat and sigh, knowing full well

When la rentrée brings rain, we’ll all moan like hell.

N.B. la rentrée = back to school (or work or whatever) after a holiday, especially the summer holiday. It's rather cool that they have a special, useful word for that. I think we need one in English.

Thanks for the comments everyone. Still hot. Still British, complaining about French heat.

I did end up drinking a beer
It was not a good idea
Now I'm feeling over-heated
My head swims when I'm not seated

Topical indeed - tho' I'm still able to enjoy a glass or two
of whatever I fancy. That said...
If the tar on the road is melting
Or a pavement's a slippery slide,
You can bet they'll both take a belting
From the ranks of the "never satisfied"!

Too hot to drink wine or beer...can it get any worse?

Bring back the showers and the hose pipes,
I'm running out of the wet wipes.
Another great poem pouring out of you to wet the appetite of W.O.L. readers.

It's always like that down in Phoenix where my cousin is. I hate the heat, but enjoyed this poem. It reminded me of how much I hate the heat. Well done.?

If the weather is not hot or not cold
It causes problems with human communication
If it decides to go on strike (there's one hell of a tadoo)
No weather to talk about? Hell, mass frustration ?
