CONFLAGRATION

The people come like wolves

into hushed art galleries,

discreet and solemn libraries

to destroy history's mirrors of culture

finding them irrelevant to their cause.

A change is coming.

Deep into archives

dowsing with petrol

faces set firm into the fray

they light the day with dark intent.

Soon impartial enquirers will come

to report the news:

some may survive to tell a tale

of sporadic fires,

skies weeping for the past.

Now Britain has come home at last!

Some destruction going on. Maybe a cause, maybe just for it's own sake.
Thought provoking.

I tried this bold brush stroke type poem, but of course pretty much a waste of time, as it involves a sort of cul de sac re human relationships, which as we all know gets the glut of comments. Therefore many thanks David and Graham for stepping up - Hard questions to answer Graham in all honesty. I suppose good investments have a logic of their own - sad that artists often led difficult lives in order to give beauty to the world. Ownership has become an obsession to those with the means to elevate their value. I thought mindless morons in power might just want to burn such things. Thanks for the appreciation.

Thanks David for picking up that line, opposites attract.

Col, Brian, Anya and Pat, i'm pleased you liked this.

I often wonder what makes priceless art exhibits so exclusive? Why they are revered so much? And why anyone would want to destroy them?

Good work Ray
