One More Bottle

entry picture

Drink chipped away a once chiseled face.
And dragged him down to a darker place.
Depression and anxiety, certain to unfold.
That yearning for one more bottle to hold.

Massive success, golden discs on the wall.
But it slowly faded away into nothing at all.
His band no more on the papers front page
Two broken marriages, at still a young age.

A missing person, a troubled soul on the run.
Sadly found weeks later, the drink had won.
A life tragically cut short, by his own hand.
Alcoholism, an illness so hard to understand.

Thank you, this one is about Stuart Adamson, a brilliant artist who shunned the fame despite tasting huge success for a time. Stuart just wanted to make the world a better place through his music and nothing more. That's my CND patch he is wearing in my Demons poem! He wanted to wear it for a televised Liverpool gig in 1983! Sadly Stuart went missing in 2001 and was found hung in a hotel room in Honolulu, he had recently turned to heavy drinking again.

Brilliant.
I love poetry about fame and the down side, the glory but misery it can bring.
Famous people are often led to drink or drugs.
Well written.
