Holding to the Root

This love is not gentle, it is outraged

By the self-interested scuttling to safe burrows,

The building of walls, the digging of mass graves.

This sadness is not sorrowful, it is ashamed.

These reasonable, rational, sensible words

A smoke screen for cruelty, cowardice, complacency

In the maggot ridden blood of human nature.

This anger is not rage, it is the deepest kind of love

Commitment that will not let go, that will never give up

That still knows that spark from whence we came

That holds to the very root of hope.

Thanks for your kind and comments and likes. I was full of conflicting emotions sparked by the Grenfell discussions.

Love can be both tender and difficult but always passionate and never should be lacklustre. Though sometimes difficult to tell as it can be hidden and a swine to pin down.
A wonderful poem Hazel
Nice one

Hazel,
Thank you for this poem which kindles the spirit of determination and optimism in the soul. So well composed with rich imagery.
