WHO CAN EXPLAIN?

Can anyone explain what love is?

Is it merely tarted-up lust?

And valuing it "beyond and above" is

Just disguising when need becomes must.

What is this weird dependency

Of one human being on another,

With hope in eternal ascendancy

As some soul seeks a like-minded "other"?

How many lines of poetry get written

Explaining how love is or ain't?

And how easy it is to get smitten

Whether a devil or saint.

Who can explain the attractions

That bedevil human connections...

The contrary emotional interactions

That see us ignore imperfections?!

So - who can explain what love is...

Is it merely tarted-up lust?

And valuing it "beyond and above" is

Just disguising when need becomes must.

I think the sudden inspiration (it was completed very
quickly) came from watching the royal wedding - and the
faces of those immediately involved. But the question is
eternal, is it not?

I like this very much.
'Don't leave me' and 'let's shag' certainly seem to be more common sentiments than 'I really get who you are and I like and appreciate you'.
