Sir Roger Bannister - Legend

entry picture

After putting in a shift at St Mary’s hospital

This medical student was on a mighty mission

At Paddington station he boarded the Oxford train

He was determined to show the world and assert his position

With the help of his friends Chris Brasher and Chataway

They toed the line to set the pace on the Iffley Road track

History and destiny was in their hands and at their feet

The gun fired and the race was on no looking back

On the 6th May 1954 the four minute mile was finally broken

A defining and glorious moment in history 3:59.4

He achieved his burning ambition and did it clean

As an inspired athlete you couldn’t ask for any more

Drugs and doping were thankfully not on the scene

As he crossed the finishing line it was poetry in motion

RIP Sir Roger Bannister – Legend

A true record breaker from an age of amateurs - which
originates from amator (lover). A timely tribute!
"Like a gazelle, he raced along that track
And from that time on there was no looking back!".
