How Can I Keep From Singing

Spiritual Hymns

Are the essence of a highschool choir
That sings often the sounds of Queen in the style of acapella
But also the rolling notes of Ezekiel Saw the Wheel
And the thumping heart of Elijah Rock.

How Can I Keep From Singing
When piano pushed
And the opening notes gently pulled in, to meet a booming brillance
My life goes on in endless song
And I recall the disconnect that happened when I stood in line that now
I can only recall through the vicarious experience of youtube videos
Remembering the imperfection.

We were not particulalrly good
But still I loved
How in that moment
I hear the real though distant song.
That kept my lungs full of a thick starchy sound ever reaching towards a goal that even now I can't begin to claim
And somehow
The songs that I never sang become nostalgia to me, sitting in my bed and listening
Through speakers.

To a far off time when arsenic was all I knew
But beautiful hymns
That pushed with keys
And kept me cradled in the sweetest of mangers
Where perhaps the legend of Jesus himself had found solace.

No storm can shake my inmost calm
While to that rock I'm clinging

And even now

How Can I Keep From Singing.
