Cinderella

To have a fairy godmother must be rather cool
Especially if your stepsisters are nasty, brash and cruel
But I think Cinderella's fairy must have been a fool, 'cos
"Make sure you leave by midnight" is a silly sort of rule

Well I'm not one who cares to judge, cast aspersions or disparageĀ
But while I'm on the subject - let's talk about that carriage
Again there's proof that her god-fairy was a ditzy bumpkin
Who else would make a carriage from a smelly orange pumpkin?!

If you're going to have a carriage, then it must be drawn, of courseĀ
And yes, the smartest beast to do this, has got to be the horse
But character is important, so think it over, once then twice...
Would YOU really think it wise to pick those six cheese-stealing mice?

And what of Cinderella? Well, I really shouldn't mock
But if I'd have seen this going on, I'd blink a bit with shock
I'd charm the prince's socks off, dream and whisper of wedlock
But make damn sure that all night long, I'd one eye on that clock

Thankfully the story had a happy-ever-after
But of those two fine heroines, I can't decide who's dafter
Not many folk have spotted this, but one moral I observe...
when it comes to fairy godmothers - I guess we get what we deserveĀ

Refreshing to find some lighthearted stuff with appealing
rhythm and rhyme. Or - to put it this way:
How nice to find a bit of fun
About our Cinderella.
She surely was a deserving one
In her hope for a princely fella,
She needed all the help she got
And from what we readers know
That was more than quite a lot
But it only goes to show...
Your timing has to be just right
With both eyes on the clock,
Making sure to vanish out of sight
At full speed round the block!
Leaving behind a one-off shoe
Clearly meant for a prince to pursue.
