Donations are essential to keep Write Out Loud going

Empty Windows

Half empty people

In a half empty town

Half way through the week.

Pointless meanderings

Around a dying town centre

Wasting time between dole visits.

Soulless eyes,

Like empty windows,

Peer into closed shops.

The shops are empty

But the pubs, like the job centre,

Are full.

Grey buildings

On a summer’s day

In a dying town.

Only the flower baskets saved the day

I like this poem Alan

A simple but powerful documentary.

You write well.

Thanks Cynthia, glad you liked it.
I wrote it sat in Rochdale town centre whilst I was waiting, sadly, to sign on myself.

Superb. I wait for more with real pleasure. Last line is the touch of a true poet.

i like the lack off movement in this - close to a painting! good stuff!
