GRUNGE CONCERT

This concert I wanna tell you about

pivotal, '92 it was

grunge out of Seattle

you would have been there

I kid you not

if you'd knew about it

I was totalled then, a storm building

wipe - out brainwise.

Can't even remember where it was

this concert I wanna tell you about.

but it happened, know what i'm saying

fuck me it was up there

with Hendricks and the like

but somehow further in

I was there, know what i'm saying

like praying for the beat

and yeah like gettin' it

that's it, that's exactly it.

At the climax of the show

(alright - one big climax)

I was told, 'cause I was out of it

the stage went dark

it ended right there, then the chanting began

and the handclaps

there was silhouettes of humpback roadies

like rabbits fixing fuck knows what.

Suicide was in the air, I know

'cause I was there.

Next thing I do remember

lights went up just low murmurs of current

subtle oranges and yellows

now

this is what you won't believe

nor did I - even now

I wake up sweating thinking about it

a baroque recorder ensemble

was playing Telemann 1681 - 1767

one old bastard, you gotta respect that

I couldn't believe it either,

being stretched on the wheel of imagination

a conversion by the Inquisition

this reedy thin stuff started

like a perv's paradise,

Milton and all that shit.

Groups of fans collapsed

in on themselves, just gave up

imploded. Yet like a miracle

others were standing and pointing

Close Encounters comes to mind,

within minutes they were spellbound.

Yeah yeah yeah that was clever

I will say - an upsurge of weird like culture

I dunno how, but what I do know

is that now

I am a big shithead fan

of Philip Telemann

massive deal for me

man,

well, let's be honest

you can't live in the past.

Thanks for your comment LCPTB. As you rightly so there have been lots of musical quotes from classics, starting with Yes we have no bananas, that long ago! (from an opera) through to Barry Manilow (Chopin) and even dear old Lloyd Webber . We owe a lot to the early composers.

Cheers Col. Overjoyed to hear from you again in your capacity of poetry meister. Hope you are doing ok. This was a lot of effort in the making from a simple idea. So glad you liked it - I think I remember your poem - it couldn't have been a limp lettuce surely? Things are in full swing this end thanks. I'll keep an eye out.

You really had to be there. This is brill Ray. I've been partially out of the loop for a few weeks but glad I came across this one on my WoL wanderings this morning. I once wrote a very bad poem about not trusting anyone who had experienced the Summer of Love and for some reason your excellent poem had me thinking back to my tripe of nonsense. Hope all is well in Raymondo Land. Col.

Hi Suki , your solitary comment is very welcome. To click with one person when so much work goes into a poem can be like giving blood, but knowing what you go through with your poems makes it feel worth a lot. Your verse is a nice corollary. More Zappa than Telemann I feel!
Just one of those flights of fancy this time round .

Thanks also Michaela for your like , very appreciated!

Cheers Ray

Love it ray!!

When the lights out it's less dangerous
Here we are now, entertain us
I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us
A mulatto, an Albino
A mosquito My libido, yeah..

Not exactly baroque, but perhaps Kurt and Philipp are extemporising some improve grunge with flute and zither!!
