char

At the corner of your mouth there is lightning

I am burning my fingers

Trying to remove the skin of a roasted red pepper

But someone, somewhere is dying

This songs climax is the lead singer screaming

‘ITS FADING’

But rather than the music dying down

It is getting louder and louder

So he must mean that the silence is fading

To successfully remove the skin of a red pepper

It needs to be roasted until wrinkly

Like a digit that has spent too long in a bath

Then removed and covered in cling film

To steam, which aids the process

The song has finished now

In the time it has taken me to write this poem

Scores of people have died around the world

I have adequately skinned a pepper

The vocalist has cleverly finished his song

And you have still not moved

◄ ceremony

the guns, they rain on everyone ►

Hi Stu,

It is getting louder and louder
So he must mean that the silence is fading..

I have adequately skinned a pepper
The vocalist has cleverly finished his song
And you have still not moved..

Wow. And the link you provided is haunting too. The owl handling course sounds fascinating!!

cheers guys. hope your all well. i will get back to reading your work after the weekend, i'm going on an owl handling course which will be brilliant. for now, here is the song i was listening to while i wrote this poem. if you have a few minutes, its a wonderful introduction to a tragic musician

I love how this all merges together and then punches you in the throat,I like poetry that makes me pay attention and this does.

The death of a pepper is a sacrifice that brings pleasure, the death of people a simple inescapable fact , and you blend the detail bewitchingly with this song, like the song of the earth! I try to get close Stu but you're too clever for me.

Everyday we do simple things (like as you say roasting a pepper) that some people cannot do because of some horrid circumstance. I love your comparison between wrinkly fingers and the wrumpled skin of the roasted pepper, such a great image.
