TO A CURVE

Sometimes a curve is all we need

to make our hearts and minds succeed

straight lines the march of time

illusions of supremacy

the ambitious cocky stiff salute

to distance conquered

progress gained

but the curve was never made for war

the rifle bent is a head

hung low in slow repent.

Sometimes a curve is all we seek

when hands in sweet caress combine

curved lines that bring us hope,

a crescent moon that shuts our eyes

to squared off meanings

that reduce us to fates and tears

with a logic of stone

straight answers to the dance of years.

Bless you David - I sort of stumbled on the idea basically, masculine drives and conceptions are in straight lines and feminine ones in curves, hence the difficulty in interpretations often between the sexes. I certainly think a dose of feminine appreciation would take the sting out of society; I think you know I don't take the usual route myself !

Suki likewise - hope can be a practical result of waiting for what the curve brings instead of projecting our ends down the straight. If you are a biker you will enjoy bends and leaning into curves - why not roll it out!

Hi Ray,

I read the poem as also being about thinking outside of rigid expectations and norms; thinking for oneself, and refusing to be thrown into the collective limbic system psyche of fear and war - and hate..

This also could be about imagination, and allowing it to run free> "Sometimes a curve is all we seek.."
A curve here could mean Hope too. I'm not sure if that was your intention? Anyway I really love this poem. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Ray, the curve was never made for war..... this poem is original, good and very thought provoking. Excellent use of metaphors. Well done. Thanks. Keith
