Donations are essential to keep Write Out Loud going

On Nights

darkness draws the curtain of night

from a palate of bible black ink

painting clouds of bats

into corners of the sky

to suffocate the light

until the canvas dies again

to narrow the cornea of shuttered eyes

pulled by moon magnets towards sleep

that place where memory knits the wool

of day from patterns of time spent

spinning experience that stitches

fibres of meaning into the fabric of life

cut short by the return of morning.

Thanks C?L

This 4-month old WoL baby is very contented because of all the nurturing he has received from you and everyone else on here ?

If only I didn't sleep so much.......

I'm coming to this a little late and was interested to read your comment Paul. It's always good to see writers exploring and developing new styles of writing which for me anyway is how I learn and improve. I shall be watching your progress with interest young man ?

Thank you all so very much for your comments. I feel very encouraged because I've been putting a lot of thought into trying to develop this style of writing...more descriptive, so to speak. I'm pleased that so many of you commented on the imagery and, Stu, on the wordsmithery! David, thank you, you have the eyes of a literary agent, even I didn't realise that I'd written so much on a nocturnal theme ?

Thank you all once again,

Paul

Paul, I read this not long having roused myself for another day. It was so appropriate. Beautifully crafted. Thanks. Keith
