JACK AND JOHN

In the years following World War Two

Films fought it again for me and you,

And in their battles they employed

Two famous names in celluloid.

Enthralled, we watched and cheered on

The daring deeds of Jack and John,

Exciting us with their wartime thrills,

We acclaimed Jack Hawkins and John Mills.

They fought the good fight on land and sea,

And in the air - occasionally.

"The Cruel Sea"..."The Colditz Story",

And other tales of wartime glory,

Sent each actor through the portal

That separates temporary from immortal.

How right that when we gaze upon

their names - we know that Jack means John,

For each has left his equal share

Of long enduring wartime fare.

And though they may have both passed on,

They're both still with us: Jack and John.

Good one. Excellent topic. I couldn't watch war movies of any kind for years - freaked me out. Still haven't seen 'Saving Private Ryan', a 'recent' film. Thought I'd grow out of it, but maybe not.

Keith - you're welcome! It was another that started in my
overnight bed and emerged more fully as I lay there
resisting the feeling I should get up! Not the first time
it's happened to yours truly. But inspiration - whatever
its source - is not to be sneezed at.
