Note to revellers:

All the world's Irish pubs

are situated in the

Island of Eire (Ireland).

So the

Green Shamrock and Leprechaun

upon the Euston Road,

that used to be called

"The Grin & Bear Pit"

which used to be called

"Twisters"

and before that was called

"The Railway Arms"

ain't included.

So put down your shalaylee,

down your green Guinness

and go do your essay.

Begorrah.

Here's to the Tierney brothers, Michael and the late much
missed Kieran from Co. Galway, who ran two of the best pubs here in Marylebone, one long gone and the other
now under threat since their departure, one from life and
the other from their memorable double act as genial head barman and loquacious landlord. I'm looking across at a photograph of Kieran in auspicious sporting company that includes a bearded but still youthful George Best in
happier days "at the bar" of The Duke of Wellington in
Crawford Street, London W1. The smiles of the faces
rewind time for me as one of the regulars after work in those distant days.
