A Three-chord Song

You won't find my records

On a shelf at HMV,

But you don't have to pay because

I'll play my songs for free.

You may not like my music,

You may not like my style,

It has been out of fashion now

For a long, long while.

Acid house and drum 'n' bass

Are not my cup of tea,

I'm not like all those boy bands

That you see on your TV,

I don't know how to hip-hop,

I don't know R 'n' B,

Well all that bling and gangsta rap

Is really not for me.

I like Woody Guthrie,

And Bobby Dylan too,

I liked old Robert Johnson,

When he played the Delta blues,

And I like Lonnie Donegan,

And Buffy Sainte-Marie,

I love the sound of Donovan,

On a dusty old LP.

I'm under no illusions,

I'll never be a star,

Strumming endless ballads

On an old twelve-string guitar.

I'll never get to number one,

Playing in the charts,

But I can write a three-chord song

And play it from the heart.

Hello John, I like this because you are not a conformist. Write more please. Thanks. Keith

I'm with MC on the last line - making 'heart' plural to match 'charts'. Good stuff John.

Instantly comforting to read John and a sort of folk honesty to it. It could be presented on the underground for everyone to read for a feelgood experience.

How pleasant to see that there are others who do not
follow the crowd (& the money!) in the popular music of
today and can put their view forward in enjoyable rhyme
I found myself substituting the following for the last line,
to carry on the theme of togetherness v.fad & fashion.
"To kindle kindred hearts". Hope I'm excused!

Thanks Graham! I'm only sharing some old material at the moment, but I'm hoping that being on here will motivate me to start writing properly again.
