NUCLEAR EVENT

resigned about the nuclear event

they bought themselves the latest tent

and set it up to face the world

to share its fate as fate unfurled.

Newly minted as husband and wife

their dying would be a gesture for life

and a tent was as good a place as any

from which to watch the death of many.

Thank you all for your varied and interesting comments; forgive me for not individualising this time, I am just so cream crackered, but I will say that I try to sluice all the worry and serious matters away with a bit of light banter occasionally, and maybe that appeals; absurdity is quite a good antedote . So thanks so much , really appreciate as always your kind views. David, you make me laugh, and that's a bonus.

I believe Stu hit the nail on the head, Ray...the absurdity of watching it all fall apart while remaining unscathed.

brilliant ray. every now and then you hit the heady heights of absurdism mixed with political commentary and macabre humour and here it is all done in so few lines.

I'm glad I read the poem before the comments. ??

It's a great piece, I think. Really rolls off the tongue, and hits a high note in a dark time. Beautifully concise.

Ray, I like this piece, and after reading Colin's comment, I can't stop chuckling. Given the couple were newly weds, I wonder if the earth moved for them?......just a thought....?

Please tell us more, I'm curious as to where this original idea came from.

What an odd little poem Ray. I have a vision of the husband shagging his wife doggy style whilst they are both peaking out of the tent watching this nuclear event happening before them - the fallout and shockwaves heading in their direction. Should make for an interesting climax.
